Jane Ash Poitras is rare and special.

As a First Nations female artist she broke the glass ceiling, a lot of her paintings foreshadowed the burning political issues of the day - reconciliation, the horror of Canada’s residential schools, all haunting, memorable, stunning, depictions.

Before becoming an artist she received a degree in microbiology at an Alberta university.

Her paintings also are a reflection of her personal spiritual journey as an aboriginal living within a white society.
